The Generous Campaign: Our Response to God’s Goodness

by Pastor Jamie Munson on Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Check your mailbox this week for information about the Generous Campaign (if you don’t get the mailer, pick up a copy at your campus this Sunday).
We’re kicking off a church-wide effort to raise funds for a number of local ministry needs and our global effort to see as many churches and disciples of Jesus as [...]

Nine Things to Like About the Albuquerque Campus

by Pastor Jamie Munson on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Thirteen years ago, my wife was part of the beginning of Mars Hill Church. Last month, she joined me on a trip to Albuquerque to witness the launch of our first out-of-state campus.
As we stepped off the plane, God’s grace was overwhelming, and the experience brought tears to our eyes. I can think of at [...]

Mercy and Love: Collective and Distributed

by Pastor Jamie Munson on Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I was recently asked in an interview with the Seattle Times what we do for the community. It got me thinking about our church’s approach to mercy ministry.
Our methods range from collective to fully distributed. To illustrate what I mean, here are some examples from the whole gamut:
Collective Efforts
Sending resources and support to Vision [...]

Pray for Bud. He’s about to meet Jesus face to face.

by Pastor Jamie Munson on Friday, September 25th, 2009

Five years ago, folks over 50 were an endangered species at Mars Hill so whenever a glimmer of grey hair showed up I was always quick to say hello. Such folks usually responded to Mars Hill in one of two ways: either, Wow, I feel so old, or Wow, look at all these young people [...]

Thoughts From Inside the All-Staff Meeting

by Pastor Jamie Munson on Thursday, September 24th, 2009

“It’s like a church in itself,” said Jordan, one of our new hires, during this week’s all-staff meeting.
Every quarter or so, Mars Hill staff convenes in a big room for updates, food, teaching, prayer, and worship. And Jordan is correct, with about a hundred of us now, it is a decent-sized congregation.
Unfortunately, our brothers [...]

The Gospel’s Effect on the Executive Elders

by Pastor Jamie Munson on Thursday, September 10th, 2009

After a long summer, I’m deeply thankful for this week.
It’s a new season in many senses. Fall is (almost) here. Kids are starting school (I can’t believe I have a third grader, second grader, kindergartner, and preschooler). Football is on TV. And it’s one of the most exciting times of the year for [...]

Mars Hill Global…Regional, and Local

by Pastor Jamie Munson on Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Expanding the reach of our Air War without sacrificing the personal attention required for a successful Ground War requires a great collaboration at all levels of our church: local, regional, and global.

Our goal is 100 campuses by 2019. We want to be a church of 50,000 people—not a spectacle, not an event, but a healthy [...]

Air War and Ground War

by Pastor Jamie Munson on Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

We use the Air War/Ground War metaphor at Mars Hill to help describe the work we do as a church.

Air War
The Air War describes our ministries that deal with the masses: preaching, teaching, events, conferences, websites, marketing, technology, etc. The Air War is measurable and often yields instantaneous results.
Here is a glimpse at the work [...]

School’s in Session for Re:Train

by Pastor Jamie Munson on Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Last weekend we launched a school.
The Resurgence Training Center (Re:Train) kicked off year one with Sunday’s introductory session, and orientation will continue all this week. A big thank you goes out to Pastor Rick Melson and his team for building a world-class program in a matter of months.
The Inaugural Year
The first class includes 75 pastors [...]

Annual Report 2009

by Pastor Jamie Munson on Friday, August 7th, 2009

The 2009 Mars Hill Church Annual Report will be distributed at all campuses this Sunday, and you can download it now (PDF).
This is our second edition of the publication, and already it’s proven to be a welcome opportunity to reflect on God’s grace to us as our church grows and changes over the course [...]

Pastor Mark’s Second Sermon from the Crystal Cathedral

We recently received some good news from the folks at the Crystal Cathedral – Pastor Mark’s second sermon from the Hour of Power will air on Palm Sunday, March 28th, next year.
If you remember, his first sermon was on who Jesus is. The second sermon is all about what Jesus did as our Savior on [...]

CHANGED BY JESUS - October 14th, 2009

“I didn’t care anymore”

Changed By Jesus #54
By a female teenager at the Ballard campus
I was raised going to church every Sunday. I thought I was a Christian because I was really good at following rules and thought I was an expert on Jesus. But the personal, life-changing relationship wasn’t there.
This seemed to work for me in middle school, [...]
