Pastor Mark Tours “Lukewarm” Laodicea
Ever wonder where the idea of “lukewarm” faith comes from? It comes from here, in Laodicea*, Turkey, a prosperous town in biblical times known for its developments in medicine and also for its tepid beliefs.
Laodicea is one of the seven churches named in the book of Revelation and which receives one of the seven letters written by John on behalf of Jesus. In the letter, the Laodiceans receive the criticism of having a “lukewarm” faith, and in this video, Pastor Mark explains that reference as he gives a tour of the ruins of the city, which had to have water piped in since there were no natural water sources.
Laodicea, along with visits to Philadelphia and Sardis, two other towns similarly mentioned in Revelation, are part of the Day 4 itinerary for Mars Hill’s Turkey expedition next year. On that trip, you will join Christians from around the world as you tour ancient Turkish sites with particular biblical significance. At the same time, MH is developing a church study guide for the book of Ephesians, so that churches all over can simultaneously read and learn from the stories in Ephesians.
This isn’t a sight-seeing trip; it’s a chance to grow in your discipleship at a profound level with Christians from across the globe.
