Basic Training, Biblical manhood, Trial
by Pastor Mark Driscoll on Tuesday, July 27th, 2010 2:18 pm

As part of our look at biblical manhood here on the blog, here is the fourth of Pastor Mark’s four profiles of typical cowards, from the Marriage and Men sermon, Good Time Gary. Offhand, he’s funny and entertaining, but eventually he becomes annoying and hard to respect.

Good Time Gary, everybody loves him, life of the party. He is funny, he is charming, he is winsome, he is entertaining. There’s always a crowd of people around him. Everybody likes him. He gets along with everybody …

Here’s the key: Everybody loves him, nobody respects him ’cause he’s a joke. That’s why he’s so funny. He doesn’t just tell jokes; he is one. Every time something happens in his life, he just turns it into a joke.

That concludes our look at Pastor Mark’s four chauvinist and four coward profiles from the Marriage and Men sermon. Watch the full sermon video below if you haven’t already–or rewatch it if it’s been a while (and if you’re a dude, brace yourself)–and stay tuned to the blog for more content in coming weeks on how biblical manhood is defined and what looks like.

I identified with being dirty most of my life.
I labeled myself “whore” at a very young age. Those words seemed like they were seared on my soul.
When I was around four years old, my grandfather and my father started to sexually molest me. This lasted till I was about 10 years old. [...]
