Meet the Pastor of a 200-Year-Old Church
At this week’s Acts 29 Boot Camp in London, Vicar (Lead Pastor) Andrew Baughen of St. James Clerkenwell was gracious in allowing us use of the building for our event. This amazing facility was built in 1792, with a legacy that dates back almost 1,000 years, crossing paths with the likes of Henry VIII, George Whitefield, and Karl Marx.
The good vicar shares an admirable legacy himself; his father succeeded John Stott’s leadership at All Soul’s Church (also in London). Andrew Baughen began serving at St. James Clerkenwell eleven years ago, and reinvigorated a dying congregation with the timeless gospel of Jesus.
Andrew describes all this and what it’s like to do ministry among a people that “don’t do God” in this interview with Pastor Scott Thomas:
As Andrew mentions in the interview, one of the vestries at St. James features a portrait of John Wycliffe, upholding the truth of the gospel.

Wycilffe pre-dated the Reformers by a couple centuries. He dedicated much of his life to translating the Bible in English. This was an unpopular idea in 14th century Europe, and, as the painting depicts, Wycliffe took a lot of grief because of his efforts and beliefs.
