Changed By Jesus #46

If there is one thing I truly learned from Mars Hill its this, “Its all about Jesus!” and this idea remains deeply imprinted in my heart today. Three years ago it was a very different story.

I attended conferences, served, prayed, and read the Bible. Behind the scenes, however, I didn’t really live a life for Jesus. Much like Judas, I walked with Christ, but was not in Christ. I was deep in sexual sin, addicted to pornography, a liar, abusive, hot tempered, overly judgmental, and extremely religious–I was your modern day pharisee.

Basically, it wasn’t about Jesus, it was all about me. But despite that, there was a cry in my heart. A cry that wanted out from the misery and captivity of sin. God heard.

While doing a research paper for school on religion, I ended up on a website: Mars Hill. The name was foreign to me. It sounded like a Scientology website. But to my surprise it had Jesus all over it, as well as some dude in a hoodie preaching on how religion doesn’t save.

The website got me curious, but not curious enough to listen. As I continued on my research, however, Google kept bringing me back to this website. Finally, I felt a tug in my heart to listen to the preacher. His name was Mark Driscoll, and his message was Jesus!

I didn’t really like Pastor Mark so much at first, but as I continued to listen to his sermons, his heart for Jesus was revealed. The more I embraced the ministry of Mars Hill–from books to vodcasts–the more broken and desperate for Jesus I became.

I thank God for using Mars Hill! It is where I truly learned that it is by GRACE that I am saved, and that this life is all about JESUS. Mars Hill’s ministry has and will continue to play a very big part in my life–and my friends’ lives–as I continue to be TRANSFORMED for and in JESUS.

So thank you, Mars Hill. But more importantly, thank you JESUS!
