Operation Nightwatch – Generous #9
Recently one of our community groups in the Queen Anne neighborhood began partnering with Operation Nightwatch, a Seattle organization that finds beds each night for many of the city’s homeless, to serve home-cooked dinners to guests, volunteers, and staff.
The community group chose to participate in Operation Nightwatch because it gave them an opportunity to serve the homeless men and women that live in their own neighborhood and throughout Seattle. Though preparing an Italian feast for close to 200 people is no small chore, God showed up in a big way: there was enough food for second helpings, to-go plates, and even the next day’s lunch.

As one of the latest MicroMissions, the dinner was funded in part by Mars Hill, with committed group members chipping in to help cover expenses, as well as rolling up their sleeves to cook a whole lot of pasta.
The evening was about more than food, however. “Thirty seconds of contact through the food line can go a long way,” the group leader said. This is just the first effort in what the community group hopes will be a lasting relationship between Mars Hill, the staff at Operation Nightwatch, and the people they serve daily.
If you have a MicroMission idea, ask your group leader how to apply for a grant.
