Generous #5: Introducing MicroMissions

Last year’s sale of The City has allowed us to increase our generosity, even in the midst of a recession.

We’ve allocated $200,000 to start the MicroMission fund. By distributing small grants, our vision is to encourage more than two hundred Mars Hill Church community groups “adopt” their neighborhood by loving people through tangible acts of service, sincere expressions of friendship, and diverse proclamations of the gospel—both in word and in deed.

These are the values that undergird the MicroMission project:

  • Relationships. Serve who you know; know who you serve (Mk 12:31).
  • Compassion. Concern for both the spiritual and physical well-being of all beneficiaries (Mt 25:40).
  • Sacrifice. Demonstrate commitment, accountability, and sincerity through tangible contributions of time, money, and effort (2 Cor 8:8).
  • Humility. Those meeting needs are also being served as they serve, growing closer to Jesus, cultivating greater compassion for people, and bringing him glory in the process (Mt 9:13).

The MicroMission project will be organized through our community group ministry. If you attend Mars Hill and need help getting into a group, visit the Find a Community page on The City (login required). If you don’t attend Mars Hill, we’d appreciate your prayers as we launch this effort.

We can’t wait to see the creative ways that our community groups rally together to serve and bless those in need. Keep reading this blog for updates, ideas, and encouragement as we share stories from the MicroMission field.

Read Part One of the Generous Campaign series for more information about this effort.

Various cults, aberrant sects, and perverts make the case that the Bible does mention polygamy and so it is biblically acceptable. However, they fail to acknowledge that the Bible speaks of human sin [...]

“I didn’t care anymore”

Changed By Jesus #54
By a female teenager at the Ballard campus
I was raised going to church every Sunday. I thought I was a Christian because I was really good at following rules and thought I was an expert on Jesus. But the personal, life-changing relationship wasn’t there.
This seemed to work for me in middle school, [...]
